Worldview

Understanding Janie’s worldview is essential to fully comprehending her actions in the novel.  Janie exhibits some aspects of the Christian worldview, but she doesn’t fully embody the worldview.  For comparison, I have included my worldview in the Venn diagram and flow chart.  The Christian worldview in the graphs represents the “base” Christian worldview.  My worldview is the base worldview put into the context of my life and the same is done in the comparison of Janie’s worldview.

The base idea of God’s power is the same among Janie’s, Christians’, and my worldviews.  Janie separates from the Christian worldview in how involved God should be in decisions.  This can be seen in Janie’s lack of thought for God, except in the instance of the hurricane.  She believes in God but doesn’t really have a relationship with him until she learns how to love from Tea Cake.
